Hello!
The BC Confederation of Parent Advisory Councils is having its AGM in May. As a member in good standing, we have the privilege of voting for the new board of directors and the submitted resolutions (these are put forth by schools across the province).
The Kootenay Lake DPAC sends representatives every year to this conference and AGM. I went last year, and it was an amazing experience! I even had to give a speech for a submitted resolution - advocating for BC to adopt a Province-wide Poverty Reduction Plan - it was successfully voted in!
Because Redfish PAC won't be sending a representative to the AGM, we are responsible for completing a proxy form (see here). Then the delegate that DPAC sends can vote on our behalf. We are allowed to inform the delegate how we wish to vote. Please find attached the Nominations and Resolutions Book. There are not many resolutions, but here are a few that may be of interest to you:
1. 2018.10 Lunch Times - this one is about giving students a healthy amount of time to eat. The recommendation is 25min of seating eating time.
2. 2018.7 Children in Care - this is about encouraging the Ministry to create a policy that would allow children in care to participate in field trips and extra-curriculars. Currently, a parent/guardian has to sign a permission form - which these children do not have.
3. 2018.5 & 6 Non-Enrolling Classrooms - these two discuss the trend of removing spaces in schools that allow students to have a dedicated music, art, science, or after/before school care rooms.
Take a look! As always, email redfishpac@gmail.com with your thoughts and questions. Note: the proxy form needs to be sent in by April 24th.
Warm Regards,
Raeanne
