Redfish Elementary PAC Minutes April 2018

Present: Raeanne G., Breanne G., Catherine R., Crystal L., Jason A., and Janene S.

The meeting was called to order at 12:00pm.

Welcome from the Chair

  • Minutes from the February 2018 PAC meeting were reviewed and approved by all parties present.

Financials

  • More cheques need to be ordered. Cost is cheaper through Hall Printing vs. ordering through the bank.

  • Financial statement from February will be released with the overview of April’s meeting minutes.

  • Looking for person to deposit cheques on a more regular basis (once a week). They will need to be trained on the new system, and the deposits will have to coincide with reconciling. Financial report will be available at next meeting.

Fundraisers

  • The Oso fundraiser was a minor success, but can do better if held closer to Christmas next year. Unforeseen restrictions: One blend. No decaf option. No grind option. 200lb max. Once a year.

  • If the PAC can pay for grocery cards upfront and sell from our drawer at the school, there is far more fundraising potential. To be discussed further at next meeting.

  • Other fundraising options to follow through with are Thank You Cards, Silent Auction, Movie Night…

Hot Lunch Report

  • Daniel needs payment for entire hot lunch orders upfront vs. over multiple pay periods.

  • Jodi is transitioning with Ana as the hot lunch coordinator. Jodi will remain helping out until the end of the year, and the new person will be ready by June in order to take over full responsibilities by September 2018.

  • There is potential for a paid position for the hot lunch coordinator. It was discussed that possible money will be offered as payment, or free hot lunch for their children will be offered as payment.

  • The PAC will now be checking in with Daniel on a more regular basis in order to get a general understanding on how hot lunch is running, and if there are any areas the PAC can help out in.

Action: Jason has offered to follow up with this.

  • Ideas for an end-of-year thank you gift for Daniel so far include a gift certificate to a local greenhouse/nursery. Will be discussed further at next PAC meeting.

  • Breanne has offered to organize thank you cards from the PAC to the hot lunch donators.

After School Programs

  • Circus Camp over Spring break went really well, and the coordinator has offered to come to do a class with all Redfish students.

  • The Tween & Me program at Redfish School will be every Monday starting April 16th from 5:30-7:30pm. A light supper will be provided. Child minding has been requested.

  • Money from the winter after school programs will go to boosting current programs, plus $600 from Kootenay Family Network will go towards youth programs.

  • Beyond the Bell gardening session at the Balfour Church is going well, despite the snowy weather. It is almost at full capacity at 20 kids.

DPAC/District Update

  • DPAC is hosting a parents night out on April 9th from 7-9pm at the civic theatre showing “Resilience”, a movie that explores the impact of the stress on brain development. There will be a panel discussion afterwards. Entrance is a $5 donation, or pay what you will.

  • BCC PAC is having a meeting in June. We have to fill out a proxy form to submit the issues we would like to be covered and approved.

  • DPAC said that they’d write a letter in support of having grades K-7 at Redfish, which we will submit with our request to get a firm date approved.

Principal’s Updated *See attached Principal Report Sheet. Additional topics include:

  • Swim lessons will be held every Monday & Friday in June at the NDCC.

  • Raeanne will be attending the School Planning Day on the morning of May 28th. Looking for other parent reps to attend as well. It falls on a Pro-D day this year.

  • Daniel wants to organize a community dinner in the Redfish Gym. It has been suggested that the older Redfish kids can serve the food in order to help teach them serving social skills.

Action: Jason will follow up with this.

  • Staff & Volunteer dinner will be held June 14th. Venue still to be decided, but talk of a catered outdoor party at Sunshine Bay Park was welcomed by all parties.

  • Redfish Rally’s at the school have started, and are held at 8:30am Monday mornings. This has been a great way for the students and teachers to connect and start the week off on a positive team building note.

Financial Report will be available at next meeting.

Next Redfish PAC meeting is May 10th at 5:30pm in the School Library.
